* Important Note: During testing it was found that when Trumpet Winsock uses a default MTU size of 1500 bytes it fails to acknowledge packets that are sent to it. This is a Trumpet Winsock bug. A work around is to reduce the MTU, MSS and RWIN sizes within Trumpet to the following values: MTU 1006, MSS 966, RWIN 3864.

* Rebooting your machine while troubleshooting helps clear any doubts about what changes are affecting the connection.

* If your connection attempt fails because a modem fails to dial, it may be your modem initialization sequence at fault. Check your Modem Manual for suggested initialization settings. Make sure you have the speed set correctly on your PPP application.

* Retry any connection attempt on the Internet at least once.

* Windows 95/98 users experiencing connection difficulties or slowdown, click here.

* Certain remote Internet sites are tough or impossible to get a hold of at certain times. You may want to try another time in the day or week. You should always be able to contact

* If transferring files via FTP or world-wide-web sometimes seizes, it may be that software flow-control is being used by the modem or serial port. Make sure you use hardware flow control, or no flow control for testing purposes.

* Fax software/hardware sometimes causes problems, you might want to try running with the fax program disabled

* Before calling, verify the modem functions with other applications to determine if the modem itself is functioning properly.

* If you have an external modem, you may *not* be able to run at above 9600, even if your modem can do it. The serial port may be an old one that can't handle any higher speeds. .

If you've already configured your mail client, but you're still having trouble, here is a list of the most common problems and their fixes:

* Make sure your username is all lowercase; this is most likely the problem if you are getting an "incorrect password" message.

* If you are dialed into another provider, you may have problems if that provider has not correctly named the IP address you use. Contact their tech-support and tell them you are trying to get mail from a site that only allows connections from named IP's. This is a security enhancement.

* If neither of these fixes work, try a different mail client to narrow the problem down; we've used Eudora, Claris Emailer, and Netscape Mail successfully. If none of this helps, feel free to call tech-support for help.

* Also, remember that you cannot receive mail messages larger than 5 megabytes. Sometimes mailreaders like Eudora or Netscape Mail have trouble transferring messages over 1 or 2 megabytes. If you have trouble receiving mail (you get "Connection lost" errors or your mailreader freezes up while transferring mail) and you think it might be due to large messages in your mailbox, call tech support at 212.243.5200 and we can clear up the problem for you. To avoid this potential problem, have people send you large files in small pieces.

Q Why aren't my images showing up?

A Unix is case sensitive, so make sure the image filenames are exactly the same in your HTML and in your directory. Ex. You can't upload a file called "Myimage.gif" if in your HTML you're trying to link to a file called "myimage.gif".

A You have to upload graphics as binary files rather than text files. (If you have a mac this means choosing raw data as the format.)
